Caring for your WordPress website
WordPress Performance
I have a confession to make.
I’ve known for years that fixing broken links on websites is essential for search engine optimization. I’ve fixed dozens of broken links on client websites.
Broken links to external websites or to other pages in your own website can lead to frustrated readers. Moreover, when Google bots crawl your website and find these dead ends, they might stop sending web traffic your way.
There are good reasons and simple ways to fix broken links. The best way is to monitor your website via Google Search Console. I use a pro plugin too.
So, here’s my confession.
I let my own website slide into a mess of old blog posts with way too many broken links.
I know. I should know better. Fixing broken links is part of my website care plans.
So when I recently started looking into possible reasons for a decline in website traffic, I quickly discovered all these broken links. Because I was so far behind, it took me a few days to repair them, even with the great tools I have.
Caring for Your Business
Inspiration
Unless you like to spend time maintaining your own website, I imagine that fixing broken links is WAAAY down on your priority list.
That’s why many small business owners hire someone else to do such tasks.
It’s a good idea to offload tasks that keep you from doing what you do best to others. It frees up time and energy for you to focus on more productive (and life-giving) tasks.
Mastery is not only about getting better at your craft, but also about finding ways to eliminate the obstacles, distractions, and other annoyances that prevent you from working on your craft.

Caring for Yourself
Inspiration
Some of your tasks might appear trivial or insignificant to others. That’s okay. Like I just said, it’s good to focus on life-giving tasks.
For me, fixing broken links is part of what I do. The task doesn’t necessarily bring me joy, but the results often do.
And I’m often the only one who notices (me and the Google bots, that is). No one is going to belittle me (I hope) because I neglected all those broken links for months. So, why should I? Better to simply fix it and move on.
Just because others can’t see the results doesn’t mean you’re not getting better. Just because someone is ahead of you doesn’t mean you are on the wrong trajectory. Just because no one notices doesn’t mean it doesn’t matter. Just because there is no applause doesn’t mean you didn’t score.
